A BETTER BATTLE PLAN?
Like my brain-injured son, we’ve all been wounded and twisted by this world in ways that are impossible to fully comprehend, no less to untangle. We don’t need introspective psycho-analysis to free us from the wreckage. We need Light. Periods of darkness and confusion are opportunities for seeing Light for who He really is …
Many of you reading this right now have lost battles in life you never expected to lose. It’s not as if you were fighting the wrong battle. If you were, then you could understand. But you just wanted your marriage to survive, your body to be kept from being riddled with cancer, your finances from being destroyed after decades of hard work. Now, many of your long held, cherished dreams have been decimated.
Don’t hear me telling you not to feel horrible about that. It would be cruel to tell someone to deny their pain. But for God’s sake, and yours, please don’t move forward with your feelings as your guide. You need a better battle plan than that, and a much better Commander.
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” 2 Corinthians 2:14
Your personal war is not over; your life is not over, until God says it is over. You wouldn’t still be here if God didn’t have a plan to redeem what has happened to you for His glory and for your good. His Word says that He can even make up for the years that the locust has eaten (Joel 2:25). Go ahead and grieve your dreams. But realize this: our shattered dreams are not even the slightest challenge to His power and ability to replace those dreams with new ones…
God intends to ignite a passion within us to pursue Him, not just to enjoy the comforts of this world. Jesus didn’t even have a place to lay His head. Please don’t hear me wrong. I love comforts and pleasures. I think Jesus enjoyed them too. Above all men, He lived life to the full. But He knew how to enjoy the blessings of life as an extension of His relationship with the Father, not as a replacement for it.
We are talking here about those times when God gives us a grand opportunity to come up higher as dearly loved children. Those times require a response of willing surrender, and a determination to seek Him.
