A Time for Everything Under Heaven … EXCEPT to Give Up!
Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven” and then goes on to provide a comprehensive list of such “times” (see below)
It is no mistake that no time listed for us to give up, even when all hope seems lost. When things look and feel the bleakest, and there is no hope of victory anywhere in sight, this is precisely when we must NOT give up, but wait for God to show up.
“Light arises in the darkness for the upright;
He is gracious and compassionate and righteous.” Psalm 112:4
“So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.” 2 Peter 1:19
“I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:13-14
“You were tired out by the length of your road,
Yet you did not say, ‘It is hopeless.’
You found renewed strength,
Therefore you did not faint.” Isaiah 57:10
“Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
For yet in a very little while,
He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
But My righteous one shall live by faith;
And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.
But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul” Hebrews 10:35-39
“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven—
“A time to give birth and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal;
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost;
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together;
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
