Why is God Jealous?

Why is God jealous? Is it for His benefit, or ours? When our world is shaken to the core, being fickle doesn’t cut it. We need to have One true Lover.

“… for you shall not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God” Exodus 34:14

“My soul waits in silence for God only;
From Him is my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.” Psalm 62:1-2

“I have set the Lord continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”Psalm 16:8

“O give us help against the adversary,
For deliverance by man is in vain.
Through God we shall do valiantly,
And it is He who will tread down our adversaries.” Psalm 60:11-12

“Some boast in chariots and some in horses,
But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.” Psalm 20:7

“God does not delight in the strength of the horse;
He does not take pleasure in the legs of a man.
The Lord favors those who fear Him,
Those who wait for His lovingkindness.” Psalm 147:10-11

“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help
And rely on horses, And trust in chariots because they are many
And in horsemen because they are very strong, But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the Lord!” Isaiah 31:1

“The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not delivered by great strength.
A horse is a false hope for victory;
Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength.
Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope for His lovingkindness,
To deliver their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us,
According as we have hoped in You.” Psalm 33:16-22
